HobGoblin is a traditional English Dark Ale from Wychwood Brewery http://www.hobgoblinale.com/ an organic brewery in England.

Hobgoblin pours a deep red in the glass with very little head, the smell is one one of a typical English bitter, malt and hops combined.

The taste on the other hand is very different, although slightly bitter there is also a strikingly sweet tase of a caramel/chocolate flavor. Very unexpected taste based on the smell, but still very pleasant. Doesn't seem to have a lot of body, despite the dark coloring. Would make an excellent summer ale at a cook-out.

...or in English 'the end of the world' , brewed in Canada by Unibroue - www.unibroue.com/products/fin.cfm this is a triple fermented Trappist style beer.

It pours clear and light into the glass with a small head that quickly fades. It has a very delicate, almost unbeer like smell, seeming quite fruity at first.

At first sip you are instantly hit by a myriad of tiny bubbles making it almost champagne like. It isn't particularly tart, but has hints of spices and malt. As a triple fermented beer it carries an alcohol content of some 9% - not to be drunk on an empty stomach. It does make a nice dinner beer, it's light but definite taste and effervescence washing down food nicely.

The name Porter in porter ales is said to come from their being favored by river porters in London in the 1800's, generally a dark beer sharing a lot of heritage and technique with stouts.

St Peters Porter Ale is typical of the breed, a strong nose of malted barley very substantial to the smell. Carefully poured produces a small but dense cream head, the beer itself is very dark, but not cloudy. To taste, there is coffee like bitterness, followed by a malty almost sweet chocolate flavor. It is a very robust ale with lots of body, without having the density of a stout. Very nice aftertaste that leaves you satisfied, it would be hard to drink just one.

The Wee Beast is brew from the Isle of Skye Brewery in Scotland, one of almost 20 that this small brewery makes. http://www.skyebrewery.co.uk/skye.htm

A short, chubby bottle, belies the contents. In the glass, it appears almost a red ale, slightly cloudy. The aroma is one of mild sweet alcohol, not unlike a whisky, it almost has a smell of summer, slightly grassy, verging on herbal.

As you taste it you are aware of tons of small bubbles and instantly a sharp, malted taste, slightly bitter, but very smooth to the palate. Throughout there is a hint of butterscotch. It doesn't seem at all that heavy, but certainly is refreshing beer that I would drink again.
